Who we are
Katango – Food for Dogs is an owner-run dog food company based in Karen, Nairobi. We make real and tasty food for your dog. We focus on providing a locally-made, high-quality and safe addition to the current products on the market. It is not our ambition to be the biggest dog food producer in the country. Instead, we want to create the best available dog food possible. Made by hand, made with love and proudly made in Kenya.
Our Story
Katango was started, when two beautiful dogs died of aflatoxin poisoning in May 2020 – Katana and Tango, seen in our logo. While humans can tolerate comparably larger amounts (at least short term), even small amounts can cause serious illness and death to a dog.
Aflatoxin is a fungal toxin, mostly found on grains such as maize but also wheat or rice. That’s why our products are grain-free. No risky fillers to add bulk.
And while you as dog owner can help by storing your dog’s food properly, we believe it is the manufacturer’s responsibility to reduce the risk as far as humanly possible.
Because you should be able to feed your dog with peace of mind, not worrying that the food you are giving them might kill them.
